• Explication (German: Explikation) is the process of drawing out the meaning of something which is not clearly defined, so as to make explicit what is currently left implicit.
• Explication is the process of making something clearer - the act of explaining something in detail, especially a piece of writing or an idea.
What is the main purpose of explication?
Explication often offers one means of testing an interpretation, returning us to the text to judge whether or not the meanings that suggest themselves to us as we read are plausible in light of how the text is constructed.
